SYMPOSIUM POSITIONS: DANCE

Since 2018, Dachverband Tanz Deutschland has organized an annual public conference under the title POSITIONS:DANCE as part of the German Dance Award, which addresses current issues, attitudes and developments within the dance scene, cultural policy and society and initiates discussions.

Last year’s symposium “POSITIONEN: TANZ #3 – QUALITIES” organized by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland (DTD) taught us a lot and above all one thing: The international dance scene may appear diverse, but it still needs a good deal more awareness, further sensitization and change in terms of diversity . An immanently white supremacy dominates here as in other social and cultural areas. Therefore, the DTD has decided to further develop its mission statement and structures to allow access, diversity and balance, both for its institutional identity and for its public engagement. Parallel to many necessary changes, which are gradually being implemented through a critical discourse of the DTD on its own processes and internal dynamics, the symposium is dedicated to diversity under the umbrella topic “Creating Access”. Next year we will deal with another urgent topic that is still neglected in the dance scene: inclusion. The symposium “POSITIONS:TANZ#4 Creating Access – DIVERSITY” is already being designed and curated from a diverse and non-traditional perspective by a curatorial team consisting of Nora Amin, David Kono and Mey Seifan. The aim is to create awareness, to uncover hidden or misunderstood racism and to deal with body images and culturally influenced views of dance. This year, the symposium proposes an approach located at the intersection between the presentation of dance history, the images and definitions of the dancing body, and dance pedagogy in all its forms.

POSITIONEN: TANZ #4 ZUGÄNGE SCHAFFEN – DIVERSITÄT
Eine kritische Bestandsaufnahme von Machtstrukturen im Tanz, 21.-23. Oktober 2021

Das hybride Symposium POSITIONEN:TANZ #4 Zugänge schaffen – Diversität, das vom 21. bis 23. Oktober auf PACT Zollverein unter Leitung von Nora Amin (Hauptkuratorin), Mey Seifan und David Kono stattfand, zeichnete sich durch eine äußerst rege Teilnahme aus. Insgesamt nahmen 220 deutsche und internationale Interessierte teil. Die vielstimmigen Beiträge bilden einen hervorragenden Ausgangspunkt für das weitere Wirken des DTD.
Durch die Unterstützung des Goethe-Instituts konnte zudem die Partizipation von fünf Speaker:innen aus Nigeria, Kamerun, Frankreich, den USA und dem Libanon finanziert werden.

Durchaus erfreulich war die vielseitige Diskussion an allen Tagen des Symposiums sowie der von den Speaker:innen erstellte Forderungskatalog, der darauf wartet, in die Tat umgesetzt zu werden.
